Field Tours

Take your AAABG 2027 experience beyond the Conference venue and see animal breeding, genetics, research and innovation in practice.

Field Tours will take place on Monday 22 March 2027, giving delegates the opportunity to visit leading regional farms and facilities, meet those working within the industry and explore different areas of Victoria.

Field Tours are optional and available exclusively to registered AAABG 2027 delegates. Places are limited and bookings are essential.

All tours include private coach transport, departing from and returning to Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre, along with a light lunch.

Go behind the scenes at Jade Tiger Abalone and follow the journey of abalone from breeding and genetics through to grow-out and processing.

Begin at the pump house before visiting the hatchery to learn about the farm’s innovative genetic breeding program. See how juvenile abalone are raised in the nursey during their first five months before moving into the grow-out areas, where they spend a further 1.5–2 years reaching maturity.

The tour will then head into the processing facility for an insight into the live holding and Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) processes, with the possibility of an abalone tasting to complete the experience.

Following the tour, enjoy a light lunch at the facility before continuing on to Jack Rabbit Vineyard for a relaxed winery stop, before making your way back to Geelong.

Discover the story behind Meredith Dairy and its herd of approximately 10,000 milking goats, with a fascinating look at its genomic breeding, herd recording and vertically integrated dairy production.

The tour will include an overview of the onsite cheese manufacturing facility, along with a look at the farm’s innovative environmental initiatives, including its biofuel-powered renewable energy plant, whey collection facility and recycled wastewater plant. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view research projects through a display of current and completed animal research.

Complete the Meredith Dairy experience with lunch at a local café, where goat cheese and goat meat feature on the menu, before stopping at Lethbridge Wines on the return journey to Geelong.

See technology and data-driven cow herd management in action at Wyndara Farms, with an inside look at the systems shaping modern dairy farming.

Explore nutrition, genetics, herd management and the day-to-day operation before walking through the barn to see the farm’s systems and practices firsthand.

A highlight of the visit will be the MooLogger methane phenotyping technology, including how the sensors work, how data is collected and how it is used to support herd management and decision-making.

Following the tour, enjoy lunch at the farm before making a stop at a local winery on the return journey to Geelong.

Explore the science of feed efficiency and see how live data is helping producers better understand animal performance, profitability and environmental outcomes.

The tour will provide an in-depth look at the feed efficiency program across several herds, including Pelican Rise Limousin, Murdeduke Angus and Beechy Wagyu.

Discover how live data is being used to understand feed conversion and efficiency, along with potential impacts on farm profitability and greenhouse gas and methane emissions. Attendees will also explore other insights into animal behaviours including feeding, drinking and sleeping patterns.

Following the tour, enjoy lunch at Beeac Park before stopping at a local winery on the return journey to Geelong.
